Unused drugs becoming a lifeline for the poor: We should not be late in extending a helping hand to the service of Drugbank of Gujarat.
An excellent example of how powerful a charitable work can be when people take it up in their hands has recently emerged from Gujarat.
The mission of collecting unused medicines lying with people and
delivering them to the needy has been going on for the last 17 years in
Bhavnagar city. This organization named Medicine House - Drugbank has now made
a special recognition for itself in the foreign countries due to the operation
of its method.
Everyone knows how expensive healthcare has become these days.
Starting from going to the doctor to a trip to the medical store is creating a huge financial burden on the common man's pocket. The lives of people who cannot buy medicines due to poverty are getting better. This drugbank of Bhavnagar city has become a ray of hope for thousands of poor patients trapped in such adverse circumstances. This service to humanity has been running silently since 2005.
Where to get the medicines so that Drugbank can dispense over the counter drugs worth approximately eighteen lakhs through more than three thousand prescriptions per month?
For this, a great campaign is going on to collect medicines by hundreds
of workers. Medicine boxes have been placed at various places to collect
medicines. Pharma companies, medical representatives and drug stores are
contacted to donate additional drugs. Volunteers are selflessly rendering all
these services to bring hope in the lives of the underprivileged.
After the collected medicines reach the drugbank,
the expired medicines are disposed of and the good medicines are
separated and the medicines are arranged in the medicine bins according to the
quantity. These medicines are dispensed by certified pharmacists subject to
stock availability to patients carrying prescribed prescriptions. The Drugbank
store is thus bustling from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on all days except Sundays and
public holidays.
Harshadbhai Haribhai Acharya, a well-known lawyer of Bhavnagar city, gathered some humanitarian friends and presented the idea of this innovative service.
Achyutbhai Mehta, the present coordinator of Drugbank and a prominent
businessman of Bhavnagar, has played a vital role in furthering this noble
mission. “Our goal is to ensure that no one is deprived of essential medicines
due to financial constraints,” he says. Punit Acharya, Managing Trustee of
Drugbank elaborated on the importance of this noble work saying “Drugbank is
more than a charity. This is a collective movement. If all Gujaratis send
their help in this service, it will be considered a special service to
humanity.”
The philanthropists associated with Drugbank have started efforts to get their contribution by contacting businessmen, corporates and Gujaratis settled abroad for Drugbank.
It is certain that donors will come forward to help in this service of humanity without discrimination of caste. Shree Vinayak Kelawani Mandal Sanstha, which operates the drugbank, is a registered charitable trust and is doing this service by following the rules framed with drugs and obtaining various government licenses.
The organization has been given government approval to receive donations under 80G as well as CSR. Interested volunteers, supporters and donors of Drugbank may contact on: https://www.facebook.com/drugbankofgujarat or WhatsApp number: 9426463548.
