    For the first time, a student of the Institute of Design and Technology(IDT), Surat has designed an innovative PPE kit for cleaning thousands of front line women in the country. During COVID-19, women cleaners have won awards in the National Design Innovation Challenge for creating user-friendly Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to improve their working conditions.

    Meenu Agarwal, a student of IDT, won a prize of Rs 25,000 for her innovative design of a PPE kit for women sanitation workers in the National Design Innovation Challenge organized by Collective Good Foundation (CGF). The Design Innovation Challenge focuses on creating personal protective equipment that meets the needs of women sanitation workers. PPE kit has been prepared for women employees.

Features of the PPE Kits:

    The saree can also be worn very easily and the type of material used will not cause excessive heat to the women employees. In common cases, we find that women workers have difficulty in wearing PPE while doing cleaning work as they experience a lot of heat. Now its design will bring a lot of relief.

She made survey of female cleaners:

IDT students surveyed women sanitation workers working in Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). She also studied the safety of the equipment provided to them. He met many sanitation workers. After several rounds of interviews and field visits, work began on designing the PPE and choosing the right fabric. Out of several researchers from across the country, two teams from Surat-based IDT have qualified as one of the top six finalists in the National Innovation Challenge.
